We at Artists Giving Back want to help people find their imaginations again, even during trauma. We want people to remember how beautiful and hopeful imagination is as a daily practice, creating an undeniably powerful ripple effect.

Healing through the Process of Creating

Gathering people around a table to create art, having a cup of tea together, and sharing stories with each other is a reminder that people are people.

These are wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. Often during trauma, the victimization portrait is the only portrait we are able to see, and seeing the necessary humanization of the individual is often overlooked. How do we begin to offer healing if we only view the individual as a victim.?

We believe in helping people feel dignity again, we believe in community, and we believe in the power of a paintbrush stroke to bring people together, and to remind them and ourselves to paint a new portrait for individuals that have suffered from conflict, be it a crisis or climate.

When we change our perception from victim to individual we are able to encourage the use of imagination. With imagination comes hope, with imagination comes creating, and with imagination comes healing.

We strive to provide people with art supplies and the necessary materials to assist with the healing process, and to help others restore a sense of dignity in their lives.
